The State of Mississippi is located in the South Central United States. The state has the Mississippi River as its western border and the Gulf of Mexico as its southern border.

The state has two regional recreational trails, the Tanglefoot Trail and the Longleaf Trace trail. Both of these trails are "rail-trails" and were constructed along abandoned railroad right-of-ways. There are also recreational trails located on the north side of Jackson.
