The State of California is located on the west coast of the United States. The state has many attractions, miles of beaches, major cities, theme parks, national parks, desert landscapes, high mountain peaks, redwood forests and huge agricultural valleys.
Many areas of California have a warm dry climate for most of the year providing a good environment for outdoor activities. The larger cities have numerous recreational trails for walking, running and cycling. There are paved trails that make commuting to work or school easier and safer. There are paths for sight-seeing along the waterfront or for visiting natural environments. Tourists to the state might enjoy strolling along San Francisco Bay or along the American River in Sacramento.
California is a large state in terms of area as well as being the most populated state in the U.S. For this reason, Walk Ride U.S.A. has divided the coverage into three sections: Northern California, Central California, Southern California
Northern California
Northern California has lush redwood forests, snow-capped volcanic peaks, and picturesque Pacific shores. This less populated area of the state is a destination for getting back to nature, camping, hiking and walking along deserted sandy beaches with the waves crashing over the rocks.
The cities covered in this section are: Redding, Eureka, Chico, Yuba City, Lake Tahoe and Crescent City.
Central California
Central California has the many communities of the beautiful San Francisco Bay area, the dramatic coastline along Big Sur, other lovely coastal cities like Monterrey and Carmel and the inland cities of Sacramento, Davis and Bakersfield.
Southern California
Southern California has beaches, cities, mountains and deserts and year-round sunny climate.
It is the location of the mega-metropolis of Los Angeles and also includes Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and San Diego.
