Recreational Trails located in: Arizona
The State of Arizona is located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. It is bordered by the states of California to the west, Nevada and Utah to the North, New Mexico to the east and the country of Mexico to the south.
For much of the State of Arizona, the climate is that of mild winters, warm weather in spring and fall and extremely hot summers. Most of the state is considered to be a desert, except at the higher elevations. Although the state is very aris, there are the yearly monsoons that can drop a large amount of rain, flooding canals and streets and cause flash flooding along natural drainage areas.
Arizona is the location for many beautiful national parks and monuments, such as Grand Canyon National Park, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Saguaro National Park, Petrified Forest National Park and numerous others. The topography is that of wide open desert, saguaro cactus, rugged peaks, dry arroyos and deep canyons. The Colorado River created the Grand Canyon in the northern part of the state and forms the western border with Nevada and California.
The culture is that of the old west meeting the new west. It is also a mixture of the influence of its Spanish and Mexican heritage, winter time residents and rapid urban growth.
Cities like Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff have numerous recreational trails for enjoying the mild winters and open spaces in Arizona.
