The State of Kansas is located in the center of the United States. The state is that of open prairie and farmland.

The major urban areas Kansas have recreational trail systems for bike riding, walking, running, outdoor exercise and commuting to work and school. Kansas also has trails along abandoned railroad lines out in the open countryside.

The southern suburbs of Kansas City, Kansas have an extensive system of recreational trails that follow along rivers, creeks and greenbelts. There are also many paved bike paths alongside major roadways and paved walkways through the local parks.

Other major cities in Kansas with recreational trail systems include Topeka, Wichita, Salina, Manhattan, De Soto and Lawrence.

The open farmland of Kansas also has miles of recreational and nature trails along abandoned railroad lines. These trails include the Flint Hills Nature Trail, the Landon Nature Trail, the Prairie Spirit Trail and the Southwind Rail Trail.
