The Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail and the Tomahawk Creek Trail are a system of over 25 miles of paved pathways located in Leawood, Overland Park and Olathe, Kansas and connect to trails in Kansas City, Missouri. This trail system also connects to several other trails in the area, connects several parks and greenbelts and provides a safer and more attractive way to cut through the urban area in the southern section of the Kansas City area.
This system of trails starts on the east end at the Missouri Border near Interstate 435 at Leawood Park. At this location the Indian Creek Bike & Hike Trail also connect to the Indian Creek Greenway Trail in Kansas City, Missouri.
Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail
The Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail is a system of paved pathways that travels through more that 16 miles of the Leawood, Overland Park and Olathe area. It follows the greenbelt along Indian Creek as it wanders through commercial and residential areas south of Kansas City in the State of Kansas.
The northeast end of the Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail is located at State Line Road, just north of the interchange with Interstate 435. At this location you can head to the west or connect with the trail that heads into Kansas City, Missouri. The Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail then heads to the west, passes under Interstate 435 and enters Leawood Park. In the park you can choose to follow the Indian Creek Bike & Hike Trail that heads back under the interstate, or go south on Tomahawk Creek Trail that heads to the south under College Boulevard.
The Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail follows along Indian Creek on the north side of Interstate 435. It goes through Roe Park, Nall Hill Park, Nall Park, James Place Park and Pinehurst East Park. The trail goes right past Promise Hospital f Overland Park. The trail goes through Pinehurst West Park and then goes under W 103rd Street and heads to the south. After going under W. 106th Street the trail goes past Brookridge Golf & Country Club. In this area the trail goes back under Interstate 435 and into Corporate Woods Park along Indian Creek Parkway.
The Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail goes under College Boulevard and through Shannon Valley Park and Indian Valley Park near Indian Valley Elementary School. After Indian Valley Park, the trail goes under Overland Parkway. The trail continues to the southwest and goes through Quivera Park and Forest Creek Park. The trail goes past Olathe East High School and Indian Creek Elementary School then tucks under Santa Fe Street and heads south through the residential neighborhoods.
The south end of the Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail is located at S. Ridgeview Road and S. Avalon Street.
Tomahawk Creek Trail
The Tomahawk Creek Trail is a paved system of pathways that also goes through Leawood and Overland Park. It connect to the Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail in Leawood Park and takes a more southerly route. The paved trail system extends for over 9 miles following the greenbelt along Tomahawk Creek.
The northeast end of the Tomahawk Creek Trail is located at Leawood Park at its junction with the Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail. The trail then tucks under College Boulevard and follows Tomahawk Creek near Tomahawk Creek Parkway. Just south of W 119th Street, the trail goes through Tomahawk Park, Hawthorne Valley Park and I-Lan Park. The trail follows alongside W 127th Street and branches at Beth Torah Park. The main trail heads to the south going around Deer Creek Golf Club.
Tomahawk Creek Trail goes under Highway 69 and past the Blue Valley Recreation Complex and the Overland Park Soccer Complex. After wrapping around the south side of St Andrews Golf Club, the trail goes through Tomahawk Valley Park and under Quivera Road. In the Amesbury Lake Park area there are multiple access paths into the surrounding residential neighborhoods.
The southwest end of the Tomahawk Creek Trail is located at W 143rd Street and Pflumm Road.
