Recreational Trails located in: Pennsylvania
The State of Pennsylvania is located in the Eastern United States.
The state has numerous state and regional recreational trails that extend for miles and allow trail users to experience the great outdoors far from traffic and congestion. Many of these trails were constructed along abandoned railroad right-of-ways and have relatively few road crossings. Most of these trails are restricted to non-motorized use in the summer months and allow bike riding and hiking.
These trails travel through Pennsylvania history, going along old canals and railroad routes. Some trails pass through areas where the Pennsylvania Oil Boom occured in the late 19th century, others go past mining areas. There are numerous trails that follow alongside the beautiful rivers that meaner through the state using old trestle or stone railroad bridges for crossing the waterways.
The major cities in Pennsylvania each have their own system of recreational trails. Some trails connect greenspaces, natural areas or parks and others are located alongside major roadways. These trails are used for cycling, walking, running, enjoying the outdoors or commuting to work or to school.
