Recreational Trails located in: Iowa
The State of Iowa is located in the Central United States. Iowa is situated to two major rivers, the Missouri River and The Mississippi. The topography is that of gently rolling hills and wide open farmland.
The major cities in Iowa have expansive networks of recreational trails for bike riding, walking, running, enjoying the outdoors, sight-seeing and commuting to work or to school.
In addition to the trail systems in the urban areas, Iowa has numerous pathways constructed along abandoned railroad beds that allow trail-users to travel through the open countryside without having to deal with traffic and congestion. Some of these rail-trails are paved and some have an crushed limestone surface. These trails pass through forests, wetlands, open farmland, grassy tall-grass prairie, suburban residential areas and into the commercial areas of the city. They often merge with other trail systems within the urban areas.
