The Gay Lea Wilson Trail is a 10-mile long paved pathway located in Altoona, Pleasant Hill and Des Moines in Central Iowa. For much of the route, the tail wanders through the woods in the natural areas and parks alongside Four Mile Creek on the eastern side of the Des Moines metro area. The trail goes past a number of local parks and residential neighborhoods.
The northwest end of the Gay Lea Wilson Trail meets the Gay Lea Wilson Trail Connection that extends another 8.4 miles to SE Oralabor Road. This connection allows trail users to connect to the Chichaqua Valley Trail.
The northeast end of the Gay Leah Wilson Trail meets up with the Vern Willey II Trail that extends farther into Altoona. In this location, trail users can also connect to trails that head east to Prairie Heritage Park, Greenway Park and other neighborhood trails in Altoona.
Conditions
The Gay Lea Wilson Trail is paved for the entire route. The trail is open for non-motorized uses such as bike riding, running and walking. Most of the trail is located away from traffic, though there are a few road crossings.
