Recreational Trails located in: Maryland
The State of Maryland is located in the Eastern United States. The state is situated along the shores of Chesapeake Bay and has miles of shoreline. The major cities are Baltimore and Anapolis and the state is adjacent to Washington D.C. There is a large urban population in the eastern part of the state, and more rural areas to the west.
Maryland has a number of regional recreational trails that extend for miles and allow trail users to experience the great outdoors far from traffic and congestion. Many of these trails were constructed along abandoned railroad right-of-ways and have relatively few road crossings. Most of these trails are restricted to non-motorized use in the summer months and allow bike riding and hiking.
The major cities in each have their own system of recreational trails. Some trails connect greenspaces, natural areas or parks and others are located alongside major roadways. These trails are used for cycling, walking, running, enjoying the outdoors or commuting to work or to school.
