The D & H Rail Trail, also known as the Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail, is a 38-mile long unpaved pathway that extends from the New York border to the community of Simpson, just north of Carbondale, in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The trail follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way through thick woods, along the creek and past beautiful waterfalls.
Conditions
The surface of the D & H Rail Trail remains in a natural state for all by 10 miles. The 10 mile stretch of compacted stone dust surface stretches from Vandling to Herrick. The remainder of the trail is not suitable for all types of bikes.

The D & H Rail Trail goes past the following communities: Lanesboro, Starrucca, Thompson, Union Dale, Forest City, Vandling and Simpson.
Nearby Trails
O and W Trail: the D & H Rail Trail meets up with the O and W Trail around Forest City. The O and W Trail takes a more northeasterly route to the West Branch Delaware River near Hancock, New York.
Lackawanna River Heritage Trail: the two trails meet at the south end of the D & H Rail Trail in Simpson.
End Points
The north end of the D & H Rail Trail is located at Damascus Road and the Pennsylvania / New York border.
The south end of the D & H Rail Trail is located at Main Street and the Lackawanna River in the communtiy of Simpson. Simpson is situated to the northeast of Carbondale.
