The San Luis Rey River Trail is a paved 7.2 -mile long trail that is located in Oceanside in Northern San Diego County. The trail spans between the north end of Downtown Oceanside and Guajome Regional Park. The trail starts near the mouth of the river, goes past the marina at Oceanside Harbor then wanders through the natural areas alongside the creekbed. There are residential neighborhoods on each side of the riverbed. The east end connects to the hiking trails at Guajome Regional Park.
Conditions
The San Luis Rey River Trail is paved for the entire rout, but some access paths may be unpaved. The route of the trail is located in the natural areas alongside the riverbed away from streets and traffic and there are few road crossings. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. There is an elevation gain of around 100 feet near the east end of the trail.

End Points
The west end of the San Luis Rey River Trail is located at N. Cleveland Street and Neptune Way in Oceanside. From this point the trail wraps to the northeast and heads under Interstate 5. The trail follows alongside Highway 76 for a short distance then wraps around the perimeter of the San Luis Rey community. The trail kicks to the north and goes past College Boulevard.
The east end of the San Luis Rey River Trail is located at Andrew Jackson Street off of College Boulevard in Bonsall. There is another 0.8-mile long separate section of the trail a few blocks away that connects to N. Santa Fe Avenue. From this point trail users can connect to the trails in Guajome Regional Park.
