Recreational Trails in Santa Clarita, California
Santa Clarita is located along Interstate 5 to the north of the greater Los Angeles area in Southern California. The city has numerous recreational trails that follow the river beds or alongside major roadways. There is also an extensive network of paved pathways within many of the local residential neighborhoods.
Chuck Pontius Commuter Rail Trail
The Chuck Pontius Commuter Rail Trail is a 5.2-mile long paved pathway located in the heart of Santa Clarita. The trail is located adjacent to Valencia Boulevard and Soledad Canyon Road.
The Chuck Pontius Commuter Rail Trail serves as a connection between the South Fork River Trail and the Santa Clara River Trail.
San Francisquito Creek Trail
The San Francisquito Creek Trail is a 7-mile long paved pathway that follows the natural areas alongside the creek bed on the north side of Santa Clarita.
The north end of the San Francisquito Creek Trail is located along Copper Hill Drive to the west of McBean Parkway. The trail has underpasses for Decoro Drive and Newhall Ranch Road. The route goes past West Creek Park, Valencia High School and Valencia Heritage Park.
The San Francisquito Creek Trail connects to the South Fork River Trail and to the Santa Clara River Trail. There are also multiple access paths into the nearby neighborhoods.
Santa Clara River Trail
The Santa Clara River Trail is set of paved pathways that follow the riverbed to the north of Downtown Santa Clarita.
The 5-mile long western section of the trail spans between McBean Parkway and Golden Valley Road. The 3-mile long eastern section spans between Discovery Park and a point along the Antelope Valley Freeway.
The Santa Clara River Trail connects to the San Francisquito Creek Trail at McBean Parkway.
South Fork River Trail
The South Fork River Trail is a 4.4-mile long paved path that spans between the San Francisquito Creek Trail and Downtown Santa Clarita. The trail also connects to the Chuck Pontius Commuter Rail Trail at Valencia Boulevard.
The South Fork River Trail connects to the San Francisquito Creek Trail to the north of the intersection os Magic Mountain Parkway and Tourny Road. The trail heads south across the riverbed and goes under McBean Parkway, goes past the Valencia Mark Shopping Center and Placerita Junior High School. The south end of the trail is located along Wiley Canyon Road at Orchard Village Road.
