Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Encinitas, California
Encinitas is located in a lovely part of San Diego County. The city is situated between the coast of the Pacific Ocean and the rugged hills and valleys to the east if Interstate 5.
Encinitas has many recreational trails for bike riding and walking that follow alongside local roadways, through the residential areas and head out into the natural areas.
Encinitas Ranch Trails
There is a large system of paved and unpaved recreational trails that create a network of pathways in the Encinitas Ranch area. These trails wrap around the outside of the golf course and residential neighborhoods.The trails stretch from Quail Hollow Drive in the north to Zona Gale Road in the south. The trails follow alongside the major roadways of Leucadia Boulevard, Quail Gardens Drive and Paseo de las Flores. Many of the trails head away from the major roadways and cross through the scrub brush covered natural areas or wrap around the perimeter of the subdivisions in the area. The trails of Indian Head Canyon Trail are also in this area.
The trails go past the Leo Mullen Sports Park, Indian Canyon and the Encinitas Ranch Golf Course.
Olivenhain Trails
The community of Olivenhain, on the eastern side of Encintas, has numerous pathways placed alongside the roadways, cross through the residential areas or head out into the natural areas.. These are wide paved and unpaved pathways.
Highway 101 Multi-Use Path
The Highway 101 Multi-Use Path is a 3.8-mile long paved pathway that follows alongside Highway 101 through much of Encinitas and Solano Beach.
San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve Trails
The San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve Trails are unpaved pathways that wrap around the reserve located just south of Encinitas. The trails wander through the natural areas and tuck under Interstate 5.
