RELATED LINKS:
The San Gabriel River Trail is a 38-mile long paved and unpaved pathway that extends from the mouth of San Gabriel Canyon north of Covina to Seal Beach in Southern California. The trail travels along the banks of the San Gabriel River Channel through multiple cities to the east of Los Angeles.
The trail travels through a variety of landscapes, past sagebrush covered hillsides, going by lush wetlands and alongside miles of stark concrete channels, next to industrial areas, residential sections, golf courses, commercial areas and then the beach communities. It provides a freeway-free zone for those that want to ride with few street crossings. The trail also connects a number of regional parks for trail users that wish to take a break or to park and travel for a portion of the trail.
Conditions
The San Gabriel River Trail has paved and unpaved portions. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. Most of the route is away from streets with long uninterrupted stretches and there are underpasses for crossing major roadways. Horses are allowed on some sections of the trail.
The trail drops a total of 669 feet in elevation, with the biggest climb at the far northern section of the trail.
