The Hop River State Park Trail is a 20.2-mile long unpaved pathway that stretches between Manchester, Vernon, Bolton and Columbia in Central Connecticut. the trail follows the route of an abandoned railroad right-of-way through the beautiful woodlands of this part of the state. The trail goes past residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, alongside Railroad Brook, uses underpasses for crossing major roadways and then winds its way through the dense forestland adjacent to State Highway 6.
Traveling through miles of hardwood forest, this trail is a fantastic way to see the autumn colors, away from traffic and congestion.
Conditions
The Hop River State Trail is open for bike riding, hiking and horseback riding. Cross-country skiing is allowed during snowy months. The trail has a graded surface of crushed stone and may not be suitable for all types of bicycles. For the most part, the route of the trail is away from traffic with long stretches between road crossings. Portions of the trail are quite remote, so trail users should come prepared.

Vernon Rails to Trails: The 4-mile long Vernon Rails to Trails pathway connects to the Hop River State Park Trail at Warren Avenue in Vernon then heads to the north, tucking under Interstate 84.
Airline State Park Trail: a portion of the Airline State Park Trail is located not far from the southeast end of the Hop River State Park Trail on the east side of Columbia near Willimantic. Trail users that wish to connect to the other trail will need to travel about 2.4 miles along local roads. Another portion of the Airline State Park Trail can be reached by traveling along Main Stret in Willimantic.
End Points
The west end of the Hop River State Park Trail is located at Colonial Road and Parker Street in Manchester.
The east end of the Hop River State Park Trail is located at 180 Kings Road, to the west of Flanders River Road, on the east side of Columbia.
