The Porter Rockwell Trail, also called the Sandy Rail Trail, is a 10 mile long paved trail that is located on the east side of the Salt Lake City metro area. Much of the trail's route parallels the UTA tracks in a north/south direction. Most of the street crossings for the trail are at street level.
Conditions
The Porter Rockwell Trail is ope for non-motorized use such as bike riding and walking. There are numerous street crossings and much of the route parallels the light rail tracks.
There is a gap in the trail at the Draper City Town Center Station fo the UTA Rail. The Porter Rockwell Trail stops at 12300 S and picks up again at Draper City Park.

The Porter Rockwell Trail goes through the communities of Sandy and Draper on the east side of the Salt Lake City metro area.

The Porter Rockwell Trail connects to trails in the local parks along the route. There are four recreational trails along the way, the trails of Dimple Dell Nature Park, the Willow Creek Trail, the Draper Canal Trail and the Point of the Mountain Trail.
Dimple Dell Nature Park: A few blocks south of where the Porter Rockwell Trail crosses Sego Lily Drive it travels past the Dimple Dell Nature Park. This is a natural area with unpaved trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding that leads up to the foothills to the east. The trails in the natural area also lead to Lone Peak Park on S 700 E.
Willow Creek Trail: This 0.8-mile long paved trail heads to the south at Draper City Park. It extends to S. Fort Street near Corner Canyon High School.
Draper Canal Trail: This is a 2.8-mile long paved path that follows the canal and is located just west of the Porter Rockwell Trail. There are two intersections with the Porter Rockwell Trail. The north intersection is located near E 13010 S and Shadowlands Lane. The south intersection is located at Bargerter Parkway, just south of the intersection with E. Southfork Drive.
Point of the Mountain Trail: This is a 1.25-mile long paved pathway that starts at the south end of the Porter Rockwell Trail.
End Points
The north end of the Porter Rockwell Trail is located at E 8530 S a few blocks east of S. State Street.
The south end of the trail is just east of Interstate 15 at Highland Drive. The Point of the Mountain Trail continues south for 1.25 miles from this point.
