SR-56 Bike Trail

The SR-56 Bike Trail is located along Route 56, just east of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. The 9-mile long paved trail is separate from the roadway. This is a pretty route that goes through the open areas and natural scrub brush covered hillsides. There are very few street crossings, but there is over a 500 foot gain in elevation over the length of the trail.

The west end of the SR-56 Bike Trail is located near El Camino Real, southeast of the interchange of Interstate 5, Carmel Valley Road and Route 56. The trailhead is situated to the west of the office buildings along El Camino Real. The trail then heads northeast to cross under El Camino Real just south of the intersection with Carmel Valley Road. Heading east, the trail crosses under Carmel Creek Road and Carmel Country Road. East of Carmel Country Road the trail follows closer to Highway 56, along the east-bound lanes.

The trail continues heading east and crosses under Rancho Santa Fe Farms Road, but crosses over Soltera Vista Parkway. As the trail approaches Camino Del Sur, it follows the offramp and thepathway crosses at street level. The trail crosses under Carmel Mountain Road, but crosses Black Mountain Road at street level. After going under Salmon River Road, the trail continues for another half a mile stopping at Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard.

You can connect with the remained of the trail by heading down Azuaga Street for 0.7 miles.The trail picks up again at the cul-de-sac at the end of Azuaga Street. the trail goes for another 0.7 miles, including passing over Interstate 15, and stops at Sabre Springs Parkway and the offramp for SR 56. The end of the SR-56 Trail is south of Carmel Mountain Ranch Community Park.
