The Mount Vernon Trail is a 17-mile long paved pathway that spans between Arlington and George Washington's Mount Vernon in Northern Virginia. The route of the trail follows the Potomac River and allows for connections to many of the historic monuments and other sights in Washington D.C., goes past Arlington National Cemetery, Ronald Reagan Airport, Downtown Alexandria and pass several other sights along the Potomac.
The trail starts in the north at Francis Scott Memorial Bridge where trail users can use the bridge to reach Washington D.C. There are multiple other local trails and regional recreational trails that connect to the Mount Vernon Trail along the route. The trail stops at George Washington's historic home of Mount Vernon.
Conditions
The Mount Vernon Trail is paved the entire route. This is a very congested area with numerous major roadways, but the trail allows its users to by pass intersections with underpasses and overpasses. The trail is open for walking and bike riding.
There is a gap in the pathway within Downtown Alexandria where trail users need to use the local streets to get to the next section.

Custis Trail: the two trails meet at Gateway Park on the south end of the Francis Scott Key Memorial Bridge in Arlington.

End Points
The north end of the Mount Vernon Trail is located at Gateway Park at the south end of the Francis Scott Key Memorial Bridge in Arlington.
There is a gap in the trail from Pendleton Street to St. Potomac Street in Alexandria.
The south end is located along Mt. Vernon Memorial Highway adjacent to George Washington's Mount Vernon.
