The Virginia Capital Trail is a 52-mile long wide paved pathway that extends from Richmond to Jamestown in Eastern Virginia. A long bridge takes trail users over the Chickahominy River near the confluence with the James River.
The northwest end of the trail starts along the James River near Downtown Richmond. The southeast end of the Virginia Capital Trail is located at the historic Jamestown Settlement. This attraction has three replicas of the ships that the early settlers used to cross the Atlantic, a restored Powhatan Village, museum and shops.
Conditions
The Virginia Capital Trail is paved with asphalt for the entire route and open for non-motorized use such as bike riding and walking. The trail follows alongside the John Tyler Memorial Highway, Route 5, for much of the way.
