The Mesabi Trail is a 75-mile long paved trail that extends from Grand Rapids to McKinley in Northeastern Minnesota. The paved pathway for the trail is mostly continuous, but there are on-street sections in many of the towns that it passes through.
There are also other section of the Mesabi Trail. One section is located 3.5 miles northeast of McKinley, starting just east of the community of Biwabik. Another branch of the trail extends from Gilbert to the southwest, going past Eveleth and reaching down to the Fayal Township Community Center on Ely Lake Road.
Much of the route of the Mesabi Trail was constructed along abandoned railway beds, but there are some steeper and windier sections as well.
The trail goes through thick forest and past several lakes. It also passes through several small communities and goes through both Itasca County and Lake County. Numerous overlooks along the way allow you to take a break with a view.
Conditions
The Mesabi Trail is paved for its entire length. In months without snow, the trail is open for non-motorized uses such as bike riding, walking and running. A Minnesota Wheel Pass is required for all cyclists over the age of 18.
There are gaps in the Mesabi Trail within several of the towns along the way. Trail users will be required to use local streets to get to the next section of the trail.

End Points
The Wasabi Trail has numerous gaps within the small towns along the route.
The southwest end of the Wasabi Trail is located at NE 14th Street and Crystal Lake Boulevard in Grand Rapids.
The northeast end of the trail is located at Route 135 and Heritage Trail in Gilbert.
