Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Austin, Minnesota
Austin is located 20 miles east of Albert Lea in Southeastern Minnesota.
Austin has an expansive system of paved recreational trails for bike riding and walking that sans through much of the city. The trails connect several communities with schools, commercial centers and parks.
Shooting Star State Trail
The Shooting Star State Trail is a 20-mile long paved pathway located 9 miles to the southeast of Austin. The trail spans between Rose Creek and LeRoy. The Shooting Star State Trail goes through the beautiful countryside, past farmland, tall grass prairie and through rural communities. A postion of the trail travels through Lake Louise State Park. Other attractions along the trail include the Rustic Retreat Wildlife Management Area, Shooting Star Prairie Scientific and Natural Area, Taopi Prairie Interpretive Area, and Mower County Natural and Scenic Area.
Future plans for the Shooting Star State Trail will connect the trail to Austin and Lyle.
