The Contra Costa Canal Trail makes a wide loop around the west and south side of Concord area of Central California. The 13-mile long paved multi-use path follows along side the canal through the cities of Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek. It passes near several parks, schools and commercial centers along its route. The trail is open for bike riding, pedestrians and horse-back riding. The route of the trail is located in residential neighborhoods and away from traffic for the most part, though there are many roadway crossings at street level.
Conditions
The Contra Costa Canal Trail is paved the entire route. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. The trail has a number of street crossings, but much of the route is away from streets and traffic.
