The Monterey area is located along the shore of Monterey Bay on the Pacific Coast of Central California. Other communities in the area include: Seaside, Marina, Carmel, Salinas and Castroville. This area is about an hour and a half drive south of San Jose and just north of Carmel and the beautiful coastal scenery along Highway 1. There are several recreational trails in this area for bike riding, walking, sight-seeing, enjoying nature and commuting to work or to school.

Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail

The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail is a 15-mile long paved pathway that extends from Pacific Grove to Castroville. There is a gap in the trail south of Castroville where trail users need to use local streets to get to the next section. The trail connects Castroville, Marina, Seaside, Sand City, Monterey and Pacific Grove.

The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail goes by the following points of interest: Marina State Beach, Fort Ord Dunes State Park, Monterey State Beach, Roberts Lake, Laguna Grande Regional Park, Municipal Beach, El Estero Park, Monterey Bay Marina, Fishemans Shoreline Park, Monterey Bay Aquarium, San Carlos Beach Park, Point Cabrillo, Berwick Park and Lovers Point Park.

Beach Range Road Multi-Use Trail

The Beach Range Road Multi-Use Trail is a 4-mile long paved pathway located in the community of Seaside. The pathway is located on the east side of Fort Ord Dunes State Park.

Laguna Grande Regional Park

There are walking paths at Laguna Grande Regional Park located on Canyon Del Rey Boulevard. The trails wrap around the lagoon and are adjacent to the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail and to the trails at Roberts Lake Park.
