Recreational trails for walking and cycling around Pleasanton and Livermore, California
The Pleasanton area is located inland from the San Francisco Bay area along Interstate 580 and 680. There are numerous recreational trails located in these cities. The Iron Horse Regional Trail heads to the north and extends as far as Concord. There are other local trails that crisscross the area and connect with each other. There are also several recreational trail located in the neighborhood of San Ramon to the north of Pleasanton.
Iron Horse Regional Trail
The Iron Horse Regional Trail is a 32-mile long paved trail that extends from Pleasanton to Concord. This Rails-to-Trails pathway was constructed along an abandoned railroad line. It travels through residential, industrial and commercial areas in a relatively straight route. Its route is away from major roadways but there are multiple intersections with crossings at street level. It intersects a number of other recreational trails and passes a number of schools and parks.
The south end of the Iron Horse Regional Trail is located at Valley Avenue near Busch Road.
The Iron Horse Regional Trail passes through the communities of Concord, Pleasant Hill, Bancroft, Contra Costra Center, Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville, San Ramon, Dublin and Pleasanton.

Arroyo De La Laguna Trail
The Arroyo De La Laguna Trail is a 3.4-mile long paved path that runs alongside Interstate 680 and extends from Interstate 580 to Arroyo Valle. At this point the trail intersects the Arroyo Del Valle Trail.
Arroyo Mocho Trail
The Arroyo Mocho Trail is an 11-mile long paved path that extends from the Arroyo De La Laguna Trail near Interstate 680 and W. Las Positas Boulvard to Robertson Park at S. Livermore Avenue in Livermore.
Alamo Creek Trail
The Alamo Creek Trail is a 2.8-mile long paved path that extends from Interstate 580 at Interstate 680 to north of Dougherty Hills Open Space. The path connects to the Arroyo De La Laguna Trail on the south end.
Tassajara Creek Trail
The Tassajara Creek Trail is a 3-mile long paved path that extends from Arroyo Mocho Trail to Tassajara Creek Regional Park.
