The Central Canal Towpath is a 5.2-mile long unpaved pathway that extends from W. 30th Street to the Monon Trail near E. 62nd Street to the north of Downtown Indianapolis. There are plans to extend the Central Canal Towpath on the south end another 2.5 miles to reach the north side of Downtown Indianapolis.
The trail goes through the neighborhoods on the north side of Indianapolis and passes by the Indiana Museum of Art and connects to the trails at the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park.
Conditions
The Central Canal Towpath has a surface of compacted crushed limestone and is open for non-motorized uses such as bike riding and walking.

End Points
The south end of the Central Canal Towpath is located at W 30th Street and N. Harding Street. The White River Trail heads to the south from this location and the Central Canal Trail heads to the north. This spot is located near the Taggart Riverside Park.
The north end of the Central Canal Towpath is located between Guilford Avenue and Westfield Boulevard, at 12 miles north of Broad Ripple Avenue. This is the location where it intersects the Monon Trail.
