Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Anderson, Indiana
Anderson is located to the northeast of Indianapolis in Central Indiana. Other communities in the area include Country Club Heights and Chesterfield. This area has three recreational trails for bike riding, walking and running.
White River Trail
The White River Trail is a paved pathway that travels for 4 miles alongside the White River on the north side of Anderson. The trail goes through the woods alongside the river.
The west end of the trail is located near the intersection of Raible Avenue and W. 8th Street. There is a small parking area at the trailhead on W. 8th Street. The trail heads to the east from this location along the south bank of the river and goes past Madison Park.
To the east of Broadway Street, there is a pathway on both banks of the river. The trail on the north bank connects to trails in the Kilbuck Wetlands and then to the trails around Shadyside Recreation Park. The White River Trail continues to the east on both banks of the river. There is a pedestrian bridge located near E. 9th Street to cross from one bank to the other. At this point only the trail on the north bank continues.
The east end of the White River Trail is located at White River Bluff Park on Scatterfield Road in Anderson.
Shadyside Recreation Park Trails
There are over 2-miles of paved walkways around the lakes at Shadyside Recreation Park on the north side of Anderson. These trails connect to the White River Trail with a connector trail through Killbuck Wetlands.
Mounds Greenway
The Mounds Greenway is a 1.5-mile long paved path that is located to the west of Chesterfield. The trail stretches from Anderson Road to the entrance road to Mounds State Park.
