The Monon Trail and the Monon Greenway combine to create a 21-mile long mostly paved pathway than spans from Downtown Indianapolis to the community of Westfield on the northeast side of the metro area. The route of the trail goes through mostly residential neighborhoods and intersects with other lengthy recreational trails along the way. the trails goes through the communities of Ravenswood, Willams Creek, Carmel and Westfield. These trails are sometimes referred to as the Monon Rail Trail.
The Monon Trail is 10.4 miles long and stops at E. 96th Street at the Indianapolis boundary. There is a large trailhead with parking at 96th Street. The Monon Greenway Trail continues to the north.
Conditions
The Monon Trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. The trail goes past multiple parks that have parking and restrooms. The trail is a rail-trail and takes a straight shot through the north half of Indianapolis.

Nearby Trails
Central Park Trails: The Monon Trail meets up with the Central Park Trails to the north of E. 111th Street. This is the area near Monon Community Center and the Waterpark.
Central Canal Towpath: The Monon Trail intersects the Central Canal Towpath at Westfiled Boulevard, just north of Broad Ripple Avenue.
Fall Creek Trail: The Monon Trail intersects the Fall Creek Trail at E. Fall Creek Parkway N Dr and Evergreen Avenue.
Indianapolis Cultural Trail: The Monon Trail ends at E. 10th Street near the northeast corner of Downtown Indianapolis along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail which wraps around downtown and intersects the White River Greenway.
End Points
The north end of the Monon Greenway is located is located just north of E 191st Street in the community of Westfield. This location is also just north of Grand Park, a regional park with numerous athletic fields, an event center, fieldhouse, walking paths and other amenities.
The south end of the Monon Trail is located at E. 10th Street, just east of the Interstate 65 overpass. This location is to the northeast of Downtown Indianapolis. From this point, trail users can travel along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail to reach the downtown area.
