Bloomington is located in Monroe County in Southwest Indiana, about 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis.This is the home of Indiana University.
Bloomington has a number of bike and pedestrian paths for outdoor recreation and commuting about town.
Bloomington Rail Trail
The Bloomington Rail Trail is a 2-mile long mostly soft-surfaced path that follows the route of an abandoned railroad right-of-way located on the south side of Bloomington. The trail stretches between W. Country Club Drive and W. Church Lane.
The north end of the Bloomington Rail Trail is at W Country Club Drive, 0.2 miles west of S. Walnut Street. There is a trailhead with parking at this location. This spot is also the south end of the B-Line Trail. The Bloomington Rail Trail heads to the south traveling through a thickly wooded area adjacent to residential neighborhoods.
The south end of the Bloomington Rail Trail is located at W. Church Lane, 0.2 miles west of S. Rogers Street. There is a trailhead with a large parking area at this location. Just to the north there is an intersection with the Clear Creek Trail that heads off to the northwest.
Clear Creek Trail
The Clear Creek Trail is a 2.4-mile long paved pathway that extends from W. Tapp Road to where it intersects the Bloomington Rail Trail north of W. Church Lane. The trail goes cross country away from roadways going past farmland and residential neighborhoods.
The north end of the Clear Creek Trail is located at W. Tapp Road, 0.7 miles east of Route 37. There is a trailhead with parking at this location. The south end is 0.2 miles north of W. Church Lane along the Bloomington Rail Trail. There is parking along W. Church Lane for the two trails.
B-Line Trail
The B-Line Trail is a 3-mile long paved path that extends from N. Adams Street and W 10th Street to W. Country Club Drive where it meets up with the Bloomington Rail Trail. The route of the trail takes it past Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park and through the middle of Downtown Bloomington along an abandoned railroad right-of-way. There are numerous street crossings in the downtown area for this trail but there are bridges for crossing W. 3rd Street and W. Grimes Road.
There is a trailhead with parking at the south end of the B-Line Trail on W. Country Club Drive, 0.2-miles west of S. Walnut Street.
Jackson Creek Trail & Olcott Park
The Jackson Creek Trail is a 1-mile long paved path that extends from E. Rogers Road to Olcott Park on the southeast side of Bloomington. The trail travels along the greenspace next to the creek past residential neighborhoods. The route includes Sherwood Oaks Park.
Olcott Park is located north of S. Sare Road and has a 0.5-mile long paved loop.
