The city of Kankakee, Illinois is located about 52 miles south of Downtown Chicago in Northeastern Illinois.Other communities in this area are Bradley, Bourbonnais and Limestone.
This area is situated along the Kankakee River and is located to the south of Kankakee River State Park. The state park has a 10.6-mile long paved and unpaved pathway that wanders through the thick woodlands alongside the river. The city has a number of parks located along the river with walking paths.
Kankakee River Trail - Kankaee River State Park
The Kankakee River Trail is a 10.6-mile long paved and unpaved pathway that is located in Kankakee River State Park. The park is located along the banks of the Kanakaee River to the northwest of the city of Kankakee. The trail wanders through the thick forests and has numerous trailheads along the way. The park has many other activities such as fishing, boating, equestrian trails, hiking trails, picnic facilities and an archery range.
Kankakee River Trails - Kankakee
There are over 3 miles of paved and unpaved pathways along the river within the Kankakee area.
The northern section of the trail along the river is completely paved and spans between Gregg Street and Canterbury Lane on the east side of the river. The trail connects Lavasseur Park, Helgeson Park, Perry Farm Park, Cavalier de LaSalle Park and Riverside Park.
The southern section of the trail along the Kakakee River has paved and unpaved sections. The trail is located on the west side of the river and spans between Hawkins Street and S 2000E Road. This section goes past Kankakee Community College and River Road Park.
Perry Farm Park Trails
Perry Farm Park is a 170-acre park located in Bourbonnais. The park has a 4 miles of paved pathways that connect to the trail along the Kankakee River. The park also has a living history farm, Indian Caves, the historic farm house, picnic facilities and Exploration Station, a children's museum.
Willowhaven Nature Center
The Willowhaven Nature Center is located at 1451 N 4000 E Road in Kankakee. The center has 1-mile of limestone trails for enjoying the natural areas.
