Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Ithaca and East Ithaca, New York
Ithaca and East Ithaca are located on the south end of Cayuga Lake in South Central New York State. Other communities in the area include: Cayuga Heights, Northeast Ithaca, Lansing and Varna. This location is the home of Cornell University and Ithaca College.
The topography of the area is that of tree covered hillsides, the long finger lakes, enchanting waterfalls and gorges that are the result of glaciation during the last ice age. Ithaca has a quaint historic downtown and the area is a destination for those wishing to view the array of autumn colors.
There are a number of recreational trails for bike riding, walking and running that allow you to enjoy the beauty of the area.
Cayuga Waterfront Trail
The Cayuga Waterfront Trail is a system of paved pathways located at the south end of Cayuga Lake and along the Cayuga Inlet. The trail extends to Stewart Park and has pretty views of the water and the marinas.
Ithaca Recreation Paths
The area around Ithaca has several miles of paved and unpaved multi-use trails for bike riding, running, walking. Horseback riding is allowed in some areas. These trails pass through thicly forested areas and offer a quiet respite and an opportunity to encounter wildlife. These trails are also used as a way to get about town on a bike or on foot. These trails include: South Hill Recreation Way, East Ithaca Recreation Way and Northeast Ithaca Recreation Way.
