Regional Trails

Grant, Minnesota is located northeast of the Minneapolis-St. Paul urban area in Minnesota. The community of Stillwater is located to the east of Grant along the St. Croix River and is situated along the Minnesota / Wisconsin state line. Other communities in this area include Oak Park Heights, Pine Springs, Carmelian Junction and Bayport.

There are two Minnesota state trails that pass through the area, Gateway State Trail and Brown's Creek State Trail. There are several major roadways with paved pathways running alongside and other paved trails located in the residential neighborhoods.

Gateway State Trail

The Gateway State Trail is an 18-mile long paved trail that spans between the cities of St. Paul and Stillwater. The trail connects to multiple other regional and local trails. The southwestern end of the trail is located just north of Downtown St. Paul. Heading northeast, the trail passes through urban and residential areas and then goes through dense forests and open agricultural land on the eastern end. The northeast end of the Gateway State Trail located at Pine Point Regional Park along Route 55 in Stillwater.

Much of the Gateway State Trail is built along abandoned railroad beds and it has gentle grades and long straight stretches. Many people use it for commuting into St. Paul or to many of the other business areas and schools along its route. The Brown's Creek State Trail intersects the Gateway State Trail and heads east into Stillwater.

Brown's Creek State Trail

Brown's Creek State Trail is a 6-mile long paved pathway that spans between the Gateway State Trail and Downtown Stillwater. The trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad right-of-way and travels through farmland and forested areas away from traffic and congestion. The eastern end of the trail passes residential neighborhoods, golf courses and eventually parallels the St. Croix River
