Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Flower Mound & Lewisville, Texas
The cities of Flower Mound and Lewisville are located to the northwest of Dallas in North Central Texas. These communities are situated between Grapevine Lake and Lewisville Lake. Other communties in this area include Highland Village, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Bartonville and Lantana.
There are numerous recreational trails for bike riding, running and walking in this area. Many of the trails travel through the natural areas alongside creeks, other trails are located within residential neighborhoods or run alongside major roadways.
Denton Branch Rail Trail - A-Train Trail
The Denton Branch Rail Trail is a 12-mile long paved trail that extends from the middle of Denton to the north side of Lewisville. The trail parallels the existing railroad line for the A-Train between the two cities. The Denton Branch Rail Trail is also referred to as the A-Train Trail.
The north end of the Denton Branch Rail Trail is located on E. Hickory Street and Railroad Avenue, just east of Downtown Denton. This is also the location of the Eulene Brock Downtown Denton Transit Center for catching the A-Train. The trail follows the rail line and heads to the southeast.
The south end of the Denton Branch Rail Trail is located at the Highland Village / Lewsiville Lake Station at the interchange of Interstate 35E and N. Garden Ridge Boulevard in Lewisville.

Stone Creek Trail
The Stone Creek Trail is a 2-mile long paved pathway system to the north of Forrest Vista Drive and east of Long Prairie Road in Flower Mound. The trail travels through the woodlands and natural areas alongside the creek between residential neighborhoods. The trail goes past Donald Elementary School, Wilkerson Park, Forestwood Middle School, Stone Creek Park and Forest Vista Elementary School.
Timber Creek Trail
The Timber Creek Trail is a system of paved pathways located to the east of Morriss Road and between College Parkway and Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound. The trail wanders for over 1.5 miles through the natural areas adjacent to Timber Creek, passing residential neighborhoods, schools and local parks. The trail is located away from roadways with an underpass for Cross Timbers Road.
The Timber Creek Trail goes past the following points of interest: Lamar Middle School, Morriss Road Park, Timber Creek Elementary School, Timber Creek Park, Leonard Johns Park, Flowers on the Mound Shopping Center and Rustic Timbers Park.
Prairie Creek Trail
The Prairie Creek Trail is a 2-mile long paved pathway that spans between Kirkpatrick Lane and N. Summit Avenue in Lewisville. The trail travels through the natural areas and parks along the creek away from roadways. The trail goes past Leonard L. Woods Park and Huffines Middle School.
Gerault Park, Heritage Park and Bakerfield Park
These three adjoining parks are located along Sprinks Road to either side of S. Garden Ridge Boulevard on the south side of Flower Mound. There are over 3-miles of paved walking paths that wander around the athletic fields and through the grassy and forested areas. The Community Activitiy Center and Outdoor Water Park are also located in this area.
