Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Georgetown, Texas
Georgetown is located in Williamson County in Southeastern Texas. The city is situated along the forks of the San Gabriel River and just southeast of Lake Georgetown. This area is 8 miles north of Round Rock and 25 miles north of Downtown Austin. Georgetown is home to Southwestern University.
The city has over 9-miles of connecting recreational trails for bike riding, running and walking that extend as far as Lake Georgetown and follow the natural greenbelt along the North and South Fork of the San Gabriel River. The City of Georgetown's San Gabriel River Trail was designated a National Recreation Trail in 2006 by the United States Department of the Interior.
Randy Morrow Trail - San Gabriel River Trail
The Randy Morrow Trail is a 4.2-mile long paved path that follows the North Fork San Gabriel River from Booty's Road Park to San Gabriel Park on the west side of Georgetown. The trail goes through the forested areas along the river away from the roadways and also wanders through the residential areas.
The west end of the trail is located in Booty's Road Park off of D.B.Wood Drive and Booty Crossings Road. At this location, the trail connects to the U.S. Army Corp Trail which extends west to the shores of Lake Georgetown.
From Booty's Road Park, the Randy Morrow Trail heads to the east toward town and eventually runs alongside Northcross Road and Spring Valley Road. The trail passes the north end of the golf course for the Georgetown Country Club and tucks under Rivery Boulevard and Interstate 35.
The east end of the Randy Morrow Trail is at the south end of Chamber Way and the southwest corner of San Gabriel Park. At this point the trail connects to the soft-surfaced trails in the park. There is also a bridge over the San Gabriel River to connect to the Winnifred H. Bonner Trail that follows the south fork of the river.
San Gabriel Park Trail
There is a 1.6-mile long soft-surfaced trail that loops around San Gabriel Park. The trail wraps around the perimeter of the park going past the many athletic fields and the Georgetown Recreation Center. This trail is great for runners and walkers looking to get some outdoor exercise. The loop trail connects to the Randy Morrow Trail and includes a bridge over the San Gabriel River to connect to the Winnifred H. Bonner Trail.
Winifred H. Bonner Trail - San Gabriel River Trail
The Winnifred H. Bonner Trail is a 1.1-mile long paved pathway that extends from the McMaster Athletic Complex to Blue Hole Park.
The east end of the trail is located at N. College Street and W. L. Walden Drive at the McMaster Athletic Complex. The trail goes past the bridge at the north end of Holly Street that allows trail users to connect to the trails in San Gabriel Park and to the Randy Morrow Trail. From here the trail heads west going past the Veterans of Foreign Wars Park.
The west end of the Winnifred H. Bonner Trail is located just west of the N. Austin Avenue Bridge at Blue Hole Park. The new trail along the South Fork San Gabriel River starts at this location and heads to the south.
South San Gabriel River Trail
The South San Gabriel River Trail is a 1.5-mile long paved pathway that starts at the north end of S. Rock Street, goes through Blue Hole Park, crosses under W. University Avenue, follows alongside Scenic Drive and extends as far south as W. 17th Street.
U. S. Army Corp Trail
The U. S. Army Corp Trail is a 1.2 mile long paved pathway that extends from Georgetown Lake to Booty's Road Park to the northeast of Georgetown. The trail connects to the Randy Morrow Trail in Booty's Road Park allowing trail users to cross under D. B. Wood Road and make the climb to the top of the dam and the shores of Lake Georgetown on the San Gabriel River.
