Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Erie, Colorado
Erie is located in Weld County in North Central Colorado. Erie is located about 25 miles north of Downtown Denver between Interstate 25 and US 287 and north of Baseline Road. The city is situated to the northeast of Lafayette.
Erie has a large network of neighborhood recreational trails that are located within the residential areas. There are also multi-use recreational trails along many of the major thoroughfares such as Erie Parkway. The Coal Creek Trail is a regional recreational trail that starts in Erie then heads southwest to travel past Lafayette and Louisville, eventually ending in Superior.
Coal Creek Trail
The Coal Creek Trail is a 14-mile long mostly unpaved pathway that goes through the open spaces of Boulder County alongside Coal Creek. The trail goes past Erie, Lafayette, Louisville and Superior. The trail offers beautiful views of the Flat Irons and the Indian Peaks mountain Range. There are miles of trail with no road crossings and an opportunity to experience the natural areas of Boulder County.
The north end of the trail is located at Reliant Park on the north side of Erie. The trail then heads to the south through natural areas between residential neighborhoods and past the Erie Municipal Airport and tucking under E. Baseline Road. The Coal Creek Trail continues to the south and also connects to the Rock Creek Trail, another regional recreational trail in Boulder County.
