Regional Trails

Louisville and Lafayette are located in Boulder County in Central Colorado. This area is situated to the north of the Denver Metro area, east of Boulder and directly north of Broomfield. This area has beautiful views of the Indian Peaks Range and the Flat Irons as well has having expansive designated open space areas.

U.S. 36 Bikeway

The U.S. 36 Bikeway is a 15-mile long paved pathway that follows alongside the Boulder Turnpike, U.S. 36, from the south end of Boulder to Westminster in Central Colorado. U. S. 36 travels to the west of Louisville and Lafayette. The bikeway connects to other local trails along the way as well as allowing connections to many other major roadways. The route goes past Superior, the Flatiron Crossing shopping complex and the Interlocken office complex.

The bikeway provides a safer route for people commuting by bike and has underpasses or overpasses along the way for crossing the Boulder Turnpike. There are nice views of the Flat Irons and there are also other local parks along the way. The bikeway connects to the trails at Davidson Mesa Open Space, Coal Creek Trail and Rock Creek Trail.

Coal Creek Trail

The Coal Creek Trail is a 14-mile long mostly unpaved pathway that goes through the open spaces of Boulder County alongside Coal Creek. The trail goes past Erie, Lafayette, Louisville and Superior. The trail offers beautiful views of the Flat Irons and the Indian Peaks mountain Range. There are miles of trail with no road crossings and an opportunity to experience the natural areas of Boulder County.

The trail travels through the open space on the south side of Lafayette and Louisville. The trail tucks under U.S. 36 and McCaslin Boulevard and ends at the south end of S. 3rd Avenue in Superior. At this point, it connects to hiking trails that head off into the grasslands at the base of the foothills of Boulder County.

Rock Creek Trail

The Rock Creek Trail is an 8-mile long mostly unpaved pathway located in Boulder County, Colorado. The trail starts in the north where it connects to the Coal Creek Trail on the east side of Lafayette then heads south through designated open spaces roughly following Rock Creek to a point north of U.S. 36. The trail goes under the Northwest Parkway and connects to trails in the Broomfield area. There is a gap is the trail to the point where it connects with the U.S. 36 Bikeway and the trail continues to the southwest through the community of Superior.

There are marvelous views of the Indian Peaks mountain range to the west and a chance to experience the beauty of grasslands of the high prairie along the way. You will hear the cry of the Meadow Larks and the Red Wing Blackbirds, maybe catch a glimpse of a fox or a coyote and see the native flora that still exists in this area.

Waneka Lake Trail

Waneka Lake is located in Lafayette to the west of Highway 287. There is a mile long paved recreational trail that wraps around the lake and connects to other trails that head off into nearby residnetial neighborhoods.
