Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Boulder, Colorado
Boulder is located 25 miles northwest of Downtown Denver in Central Colorado. The city is situated along Boulder Creek and set against the the Flat Irons, dramatic rocky outcrops of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This area is the home of the University of Colorado, the National Weather Service Center and multiple high tech firms.
Boulder has a large network of paved recreational trails that are used for bike riding, walking, running, sight-seeing and enjoying nature. There are also many unpaved hiking trails located throughout the city and along the foothills.
Boulder Creek Path
Boulder Creek Path is an 8.1-mile paved pathway that crosses through the heart of Boulder. The trail follows alongside Boulder Creek as it meanders from the mouth of Boulder Canyon on the west to the east side of the city. Boulder Creek Path travels through the natural areas along the river, goes past multiple local parks, through the CU campus, Research Park, past the Gerald Stazio Baseball Fields and ends at Arapahoe Avenue to the northeast of Flatirons Golf Course.
Boulder Creek Path is an extremely popular route, especially around the college campus. The trail travels just south of the popular Pearl Street Mall, connects to several other recreational trails along the way including the multi-use paths along Broadway, Foothills Parkway and Valmont Road and the Skunk Greek Greenway.

Skunk Creek Greenway
The Skunk Creek Greenway is a paved pathway that is little over 1-mile long and acts as a connector between Boulder Creek Path and Bear Creek Path. The Skunk Creek Greenway is located in Research Park, to the west of Foothills Parkway and goes through Aurora 7 Park and past High Peaks Elementary School as well. The trail also connects to the multi-use path along Foothills Parkway.
Bear Creek Path
Bear Creek Path is a 2.75-mile long paved path that is located in the south part of Boulder. The north end of the path connects to the Skunk Creek Greenway at Park East Park just west of Foothills Parkway. the Skunk Creek Greenway then connects to the Boulder Creek Path. Bear Creek Path goes past Research Park, Willams Village, Martin Park, the South Boulder Recreation Center, Southern Hills Middle School and Harlow Platts Park.
U.S. 36 Bikeway
The U.S. 36 Bikeway is a 15-mile long paved pathway that follows alongside the Boulder Turnpike, U.S. 36, from the south end of Boulder, going through Superior and Broomfield, to the City of Westminster. The north end of the bikeway is located at Table Mesa Drive and S. Loop Drive. The bikeway can be reached from South Boulder Creek Trail and the multi-use path along S. Boulder Road. There is a pedestrian bridge across the Boulder Turnpike from the bus station at US 36 and Table Mesa Drive that allows a safe connection to the bikeway.
The U.S. 36 Bikeway goes past Flat Irons Mall and Interlocken Business Center as well as connecting to a number of other major roadways along the way.

Longmont-Boulder Regional Trail "LoBoTrail"
The Longmont-Boulder Regional Trail, "LoBo Trail" is an 11-mile long unpaved pathway that spans between the Gunbarrel area of Boulder N. 95th Street on the southwest side of Longmont. The trail wanders through Boulder County and goes through the community of Niwot along the route. There are beautiful cottonwood groves, natural wetlands and grassy fields, farmland, industrial and commercial centers and residential neighborhoods along the route. Within Boulder there are a few gaps where trail users will need to use local streets to reach the next section.
From Boulder, the LoBo Trail can be reached from Independence Road to the east of Foothills Parkway where it connects to trails leading down to Valmont Park. The trail can also be reached from Lookout Road to the east of Spine Road.

Broadway Multi-Use Path
The Broadway Multi-Use Path travels for about 2 miles alongside Broadway past the CU campus to Dartmouth Avenue. The path connects to the Boulder Creek Path and to the multi-use path along Baseline Road.
Foothills Parkway Multi-Use Path
The Foothills Parkway Multi-Use Path is a paved pathway that follows alongside Foothills Parkway for 3.75 miles. This is a very busy corridor through the city and the path connects to several other recreational trails including Goose Creek Path, Pearl Street Parkway, Bear Creek Path and the multi-use path along S. Boulder Road.
Foothills Trail
The Foothills Trail is a 2.5-mile long unpaved pathway that follows along the base of the foothills to the northwest of Boulder. The north end of the trail is located along Broadway Street off of Highway 36 on the north side of Boulder. The trail then crosses under Highway 36 and goes past Four Mile Canyon, Foothills Community Park and Wonderland Lake Park.
Arapahoe Road Path
The Arapahoe Road Path is a 5.25-mile long paved pathway that follows Arapahoe Road through the heart of Boulder and to the east as far as N. 75th Street. The path intersects several other recreational trails along its route including the Boulder Creek Path, the Broadway Multi-Use Path and the Foothills Parkway Multi-Use Path. Arapaho Road is located on the north side of the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
