Trails for walking and cycling in Rifle, Battlement Mesa & New Castle, Colorado
The towns of Rifle, Battlement Mesa and New Castle are all located along Interstate 70 in Garfield County between Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs in western Colorado. This area is situated along the Colorado River and is relatively flat with elevations below 6,000 feet.
This part of Colorado has beautiful canyons along the Colorado River and is just north of the Grand Mesa National Forest where there are numerous hiking and mountain biking trails as well as fishing and camping.
Rifle Creek Trail
The Rifle Creek Trail is a system of paved pathways that span between W. 3rd Street and E. 30th Street in the City of Rifle. There are several separate sections of the trail with on-street connections.

Rifle Rec Trail
The Rifle Rec Trail is a 1.7-mile long paved pathway that is located on the south side of Interstate 70 and north of Airport Road between Taughenbaugh Boulevard and County Road 346.
Battlement Mesa Recreational Trail
Battlement Mesa is an unincorporated PUD located 16 miles west of Rifle. The town is situated to the south side of the Colorado River and adjacent to the Town of Parachute.
Battlement Mesa has several miles of paved pathways that wander through the residential areas.
New Castle Recreational Trails
The Town of New Castle is located 14 miles east of Rifle. The town has a paved pathway for bike riding and walking along Castle Valley Road and also trails that wanders through the residential areas connecting local parks.
