The Vail Pass / Tenmile Canyon National Recreation Trail is an 18-mile long paved pathway that spans between the resort of Vail and the resort of Copper Mountain in Central Colorado. The trail goes up and over Vail Pass with an elevation of 10,662 feet. The route takes trail users from a point along Interstate 70 to the east of Vail through evergreen forests and aspen groves, past mountain lakes and meadows and along side streams. The east end of the trail is the base of the Copper Mountain ski resort.
Conditions
The is Vail Pass / Tenmile Canyon National Recreation Trail paved for the entire route. The trail has a big climb from 8766 to 10,662 and back down to 9810 feet in elevation. Trail users should be in excellent physical condition and acclimated to the high elevations. They should also watch their speed on the way down. Many people choose to use shuttle buses that take riders to the top pf the pass to avoid the climb.
There are beautiful views of the Gore Range and the Tenmile range from along the trail.

Tenmile Recpath: The Tenmile Recpath ends at the Copper Mountain Resort and heads north to the Town of Frisco and connects to other trails in the Summit County area.
End Points
The northwest end of the Vail Pass / Tenmile Canyon National Recreation Trail is located to the east of Vail. Take Big Horn Road, which crosses under Interstate 70, to reach the trailhead near Gore Creek Campground.
The east end of the trailhead is at the west end of the Copper Mountain Resort. The resort is located along Interstate 70 at the Highway 91 interchange.
