Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in:
Thornton, Northglenn & Brighton, Colorado

Thornton, Northglenn and Brighton are located in Adams County in the northern portion of the Denver Metro area. This area is located between the Interstate 25 and Interstate 76, has fantastic views of the Indian Peak mountain range to the west, large designated open space areas and numerous recreational trails. The South Platte River is located on the east side of Thornton and he west side of Brighton.

Lee Lateral Ditch Trail

The Lee Lateral Ditch Trail is a 4.5-mile long paved pathway located on the north side of Thornton. The west end of the trail connects to Big Dry Creek Trail at Interstate 25, south of E. 136th Avenue. The east end of the trail is located along E. 136th Avenue, west of Holly Street. The Lee Lateral Ditch Trail goes past Hunters Glen Lake, Century Middle School, Lake Village Park, Cottonwood Park and ends at Trail Winds Park and Open Space.

Farmers' High Line Canal Trail

The Farmers' High Line Canal Trail is a 10-mile long paved and unpaved pathway the spans between Standley Lake in Westminster and E. 128th Avenue in Thornton. The trail follows alongside the irrigation canal as it wanders through the residential and commercial areas of Westminster. The route takes it past local parks and through a number of designated open spaces.

The portion of the trail that is in Northglenn and Thornton goes past Northwest Open Space, Charles C. Winburn Park, Vantage Point Senior High School and ends at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park on Community Center Drive south of E. 120th Avenue.

Signal Ditch Trail

The Signal Ditch Trail is a 2.5 mile long paved pathway that stretches between the Lee Lateral Ditch Trail and a point southwest of E. 144th Street and Colorado Boulevard on the north side of Thornton. The south end of the Signal Ditch Trail is located along York Street near Lake Village Park. The route includes Cherrywood Park and Fallbrook Farms Park.

Brantner Gulch Trail & Lakeview Tributary Trail

The Brantner Gulch Trail consists of two separate sections of paved pathway located on the north side of Thornton.

The western section is about 2 miles long and stretches between Steele Street and E. 124th Avenue to 0.5 miles east of Holly Street. This section connects to trails in East Lake Shores Park and goes past Stellar Elementary School and Shadow Ridge Middle School. The east end of the trial connects to the Lakeview Tributary Trail that heads north through Sage Creek Park, goes under E 128th Avenue, crosses Holly Street and ends at E. 130th Avenue.

The eastern section of the Brantner Gulch Trail spans between Quebec Street and E. 128th Avenue.

Horizon Tributary Trail

The Horizon Tributary Trail is a 3-mile long paved pathway located on the northeast side of Thornton. The trail spans between Holly Street north of E. 136th Avenue and E. 128th Avenue east of Riverdale Road. The trail goes through Songvale Park and past West Ridge Elementary School.

Grange Hall Creek Trail

The Grange Hall Creek Trail is a 5-mile long paved pathway that spans between Interstate 25 and Riverdale Road north of E. 104th Avenue. The trail runs through Northglenn and Thornton. The trail passes through Alvin B. Thomas Park, Jaycee Park, Stonehocker Park, Carpenter Park and Riverdale Open Space.

Niver Creek Trail

The Niver Creek Trail is a 4-mile long paved pathway that is located on the south end of Thornton and in Welby. The trail starts in the north at Pecos Park at Pecos Street and W. 96th Avenue. The trail crosses under Interstate 25 at the tunnel for the Thornton Park and Ride and RTD Bus Depot south of W. 88th Avenue. There is a short gap in the trail along Grant Street, E. 84th Avenue and Washington Streeet. The trail picks back up along Coronado Parkway N. The Niver Creek Trail connects to the South Platte River Trail near Steel Street and E. 78th Avenue.

South Platte River Trail

There is a paved pathway along the South Platte River Trail in Adams County. This trail connects to the South Platte River Trail that travels south through Downtown Denver.
