The Blue River Recpath is a 7.5-mile long paved pathway between the resort towns of Frisco and Breckenridge in Summit county, Colorado. The trail is also referred to as the Upper Blue River Recpath. The route of the trail takes it through the beautiful Blue River Valley from the Dillon Reservoir Recpath and along Highway 9 and the banks of the Blue River to the heart of Breckenridge. The peaks of the Tenmile Range can be seen to the west and the rushing river down below. Trail users will be taken through evergreen forests and aspen groves and past mountain meadows. They will also pass several residential communities and the trailheads for hiking trails along the way.
The Blue River Valley is a historic mining area. Placer mining took place along the river to extract gold and other minerals. Huge dredges dug up the river and the river bed was torn up. Huge piles of rock were left along the river for decades. The area has been restored and there are interpretive signs along the way that explain the history of mining in this region of Colorado.
Once in Breckenridge, the trail goes past parks along the river, restaurants, shops, hotels and condos and is named the Breckenridge Riverwalk. There are lovely spots to relax and people watch and be surrounded by the mountains and trees.
The Blue River Recpath is a part of the Summit County recreational trail system and trail users can connect to trails that head around Dillon Reservoir, head up to Keystone, Silverthorne and Copper Mountain.
Conditions
The Blue River Recpath is paved for the entire route. Most of the trail is open for bike riding, but riders need to dismount in the heart of Breckenridge as there is a lot of pedestrian traffic. There is a bit of a climb for the entire route and the elevations range from 9038 to 9597 feet in elevation. Riders should watch their speed if heading north to Frisco. Out of town visitors may feel the altitude and should pace themselves.

Nearby Trails
At the north end of the Blue River Recpath, the trail intersects the Dillion Reservoir Recpath. Trail users can travel to the north and west along the Dillon Reservoir Recpath for a bout 1.5 miles to connect to the Tenmile Recpath.
End Points
The north end of the Blue River Recpath is located near the south end of Dillon Reservoir. This location is on the north side of Summit High School near the intersection of Highway 9 and Swan Mountain Road in Frisco.
The south end of the south of Village Road and South Park Avenue on the south end of Breckenridge.
