Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland is located on Lake Erie on the northeast side of the State of Ohio. The Cleveland area has numerous paved and unpaved recreational trails that extend for miles past natural waterways and along abandoned railroad right-of-ways. These are trails for bike riding, walking and running.
Cleveland Lakefront Trail
The Cleveland Lakefront Trail is a designated system of paved pathways, sidewalks and roadways along the neighborhoods adjacent to Lake Erie. This system includes the pathways at Edgewater Park on the west side of Cleveland and the pathways near Gordon Park, Cleveland Metroparks Lakefront and the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve.
Lake to Lakes Trail
The Lake to Lakes Trail connects Lake Erie and the Cleveland Lakefront Trail to Shaker Lakes by passing through Rockefeller Park and University Circle. The Harrison-Dillard Bikeway is part of this trail system. The route includes several local parks, Shaker Lakes, gardens, museums and the campus of Case Western Reserve University.

Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail
The Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail is an 85-mile long pathway located on the south side of the Cleveland area. This trail is the northern section of the Ohio to Erie Trail system that stretches across the State of Ohio to Cincinnati. The towpath trail goes through scenic areas of Northeastern Ohio along the historic canal.

Rocky River Trail
The Rocky River Trail is a 15-mile long paved pathway that travels through the Rocky River Reservation located in the communities of Berea, Brook Park, Cleveland, Fairview Park, Lakewood, North Olmsted, Olmsted Township, and Rocky River on the west side of the Cleveland Metropolitan Area. The reservation is a beautiful natural greenbelt that follows the meandering river.
The north end of the Rocky River Trail is located at Detroit Avenue just east of the river. The south end of the Rocky River Trail is located at W. Bagley Road and Barrett Road. This location is the north end of the Mill Stream Run Trail.

Mill Stream Run Trail
The Mill Stream Run Trail is a 9-mile long paved pathway that travels through the Mill Stream Run Reservation. The paved trail follows Valley Parkway for much of the route. It goes past several park and picnic areas. South of the Ohio Turnpike the Mill Stream Run Trail intersects the Big Creek Trail that heads off to the northeast.
The north end of the Mill Stream Run Trail is located at at W. Bagley Road and Barrett Road. The south end of the Mill Stream Run Trail is located at West Edgerton Road and Valley Parkway. At this location the Mill Stream Run Trail connects to the trail that runs alongside Valley Parkway continues almost as far east as Ridge Road.

Euclid Creek Trail
The Euclid Creek Trail is a 2.4-mile long paved pathway that travels through the greenspace for Euclid Creek on the east side of the Cleveland area. This is a thickly forested area between the cliffs that form the valley walls. The trail follows alongside Euclid Park Road through Euclid Creek Reservation. There are several parks within the reservation along with other hiking trails, picnic areas and playing fields.
Euclid Creek Reservation also includes a separate natural area located on the shores of Lake Erie that includes Wildwood Park and Lakefront Reservation, . There are paved paths at this location that go past the marina.
North Chagrin Reservation Trail
The North Chagrin Reservation is located to the east of Som Center Road to the east of Cleveland. This area includes Roadside Park and includes over 4 miles of paved walking trails.
South Chagrin Reservation Trail
The South Chagrin Reservation is located in Bentlyville, Solon and Moreland Hills, to the south east of Cleveland. The reservation is situated to each side of Highway 422. The Chagrin River flows through the reservation and the area is that of thick hardwood forest.
A 7-mile long paved pathway travels through the South Chagrin Reservation alongside Bedford Chagrin Parkway from Benleyville to Richmond Road. This trail also alows a connection to the paved trail in Bedford Reservation which then connects fot the Metroparks Bike & Hike Trail.
Bedford Reservation Trail
The Bedford Reservation is located to the south of Cleveland in Bedford Heights, Oakwood, Valley View and Walton Hills. It straddles Interstate 480 and sits between South Chagrin Reservation and the Cuyahoga River. A 7-mile long paved pathway follows alongside Gorge Parkway through the reservation and acts as a connector between the South Chagrin Reservation Trail and the Metroparks Hike & Bike Trail.
The Bedford Reservation Trail stretches between Richmond Road and Dunham Road.
Summit Metro Parks Hike & Bike Trail
The Summit Metro Parks Hike & Bike Trail is a 34-mile long system of paved pathways and designated streets in Summit County to the south of Cleveland. The trail system was one of the earlies rails-to-trails system in the country and follow abandoned railroad right-of-ways. The north end of the Metro Parks Hike & Bike Trail is located in Walton Hills where is connects to the Bedford Reservation Trail. The trail splits into two branches north of the community of Stow and there are separate sections of pathway in Munrow Falls and to the northeast of Stow.
