Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Wausau, Wisconsin
Wausau is situated along the Wisconsin River in Marathon County in Central Wisconsin. Other communities in this area include Rib Mountain, Schofield, Rothschild, Mosinee, Kronewetter and Weston. This portion of Wisconsin is hilly and covered with thick forests, lakes, wetlands and farmland.
River Edge Parkway
The River Edge Parkway is a system of paved pathways along the Wisconsin River adjacent to Downtown Wausau. There are several separate sections to the trail and the sections are placed on both sides of the river.
The River Edge Parkway goes past the following parks and other points of interest:

Mountain Bay State Trail
The Mountain-Bay State Trail is an 83-mile long mostly unpaved pathway that extends from a point in Weston just west of Wausau going east as far as Howard, a community on the north side of Green Bay in East Central Wisconsin. The trail was constructed along abandoned railroad beds and go through some very scenic portions of the state between the urban areas of Wausau and Green Bay. The trail is maintained by Marathon, Shawano and Brown counties.
The northwestern end of the Mountain-Bay State Trail is located on Mesker Street and Corozolla Drive in Weston.

Hummingbird Lane Multi-Use Path & S. Mountain Road Multi-Use path
The Hummingbird Lane Multi-Use Path is a 3.7-mile long paved pathway that follows alongside Hummingbird Lane on the west side of the Wausau area. The pathway spans between Stewart Avenue and Park Road. The south end connects to the 1.1-mile long S. Mountain Road Multi-Use Path that goes past the Doepke Recreation Area.
Park Road Multi-Use Path
The Park Road Multi-Use Path is a 2.3-mile long paved pathway that follows alongside Park Road from Hummingbird Road to the Rib Mountain Ski Area.
