Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in West Bend, Wisconsin
West Bend is located between Milwaukee and Fond Du Lac in Southeastern Wisconsin. The city has one regional recreational trail that passes through, the Eisenbahn State Trail. There is also the Riverwalk that follows alongside the Milwaukee River and other recreational trails within the various parks.
Riverwalk
The Riverwalk is a system of paved trails that span from Park Avenue to S. River Road. The parks and other attractions in this area include Riverfront Parkway Barton Overlook, Regner Park, Kettle Moraine YMCA-River Shores, Washington County Boys & Girls Club and Riverside Park. The trails are located to each side of the Eisenbahn State Trail in the middle of West Bend.
Eisenbahn State Trail
The Eisenbahn State Trail is a 25-mile long paved and unpaved trail located in Southeastern Wisconsin. The trail extends from Eden to the south side of West Bend in the agricultural area between Fond du Lac and Milwaukee.
The trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad right-of-way. It crosses large tracts of farmland and goes through a few local farm communities. "Eisenbahn" is the German word for "railroad".
The Eisenbahn State Trail has paved and unpaved sections. The south 5 miles of the trail, that is located in West Bend is paved, the northern 20 miles of the trail has a surface of crushed limestone. The Eisenbahn State Trail is open for hiking, bike riding, roller blading and dog walking. There are few road crossings and the grades are gentle.
The Eisenbahn State Trail passes by the following communities: Eden, Campbellsport, Kewaskum and West Bend.
