Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti, Michigan
Ann Arbor is located in Washtenaw County in Southeast Michigan, about 33 miles from Downtown Detroit. The city is situated along the Huron River and is home to the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. This part of Michigan is known for its thick forests and lovely views of the river.
Ann Arbor has several recreational trails located along the Huron River, paved pathways along several major roadways and other paths located in the residential areas. These are pathways for bike riding, walking, sight seeing and commuting to work or to school.
Huron River Greenway Trail - Border-to-Border Trail
The Huron River Greenway Trail is a 10.5-mile long paved pathway that follows alongside the banks of the Huron River through the middle of the Ann Arbor urban area. The trail takes you through several parks and across bridges for views of the activity along the river. This trail also connects to other local trails that take you to other destinations such as Nichols Arboretum, the University of Michigan North campus and Eastern Michigan University campus.
The northwest end of the Huron River Greenway Trail is located at the end of Whitmore Lake Road at Huron Bridge Park. The trail crosses the river from this point going over a trestle bridge.
The trail passes by the following parks and other points of interest: Huron Bridge Park, Barton Nature Area, Camp Hillto Park, Bandemer Park, Ann Arbor Rowing Club, Ann Arbor Amtrack Station, Broadway Park, Riverside Park, Fuller Park, Mitchell Field, Nichols Arboretum, Furstenburg Park, Gallup Park, Parker Mill County Park, Washentaw Community College and Eastern Michgan University.
The southeastern end of the Huron River Greenway Trail is located at Oakwood Street at the Eastern Michigan University campus in Ypsilanti.
