Recreational trails for walking, running and cycling in Big Rapids, Michigan
Big Rapids is located in Mecosta County in Central Michigan. The city is situated along the Muskegon River and is about and is about an hour's drive north of Grand Rapids. Big Rapids is home to Ferris State University and has a quaint historic downtown area.
The Riverwalk
The Riverwalk is a 2-mile long paved pathway that meanders along the banks of the Muskegon River and connects several of the local parks and greenspaces. The trail extends from a North End Riverside Park to Chestnut Street.
Fred Meijer White Pine Trail
The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail is a 93-mile long paved and unpaved trail extends from Cadillac to Grand Rapids and goes right by the community of Big Rapids. The trail runs along the east side of the river and can be accessed from the Riverwalk. Big Rapids makes for a great resting stop for people riding along the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail.
The Pere Marquette State Trail intersects the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail in Reed City, about 12 miles north of Big Rapids.
