Battle Creek has an extensive system of paved recreational trails called the Battle Creek Linear Park Trail. This trail system stretches from the west side of the city to the east and also has a pathway alongside Helmer Road S. The trail system follows alongside major roadways, travels next to the Kalamazoo River and the Battle Creek River and takes a couple of loops into town going past parks and schools. The west end of the trail is located near Fort Custer State Park on W. Dickman Road. The trail takes a couple of loops to go by Leila Arboretum, Fell Park, Kolb Park, Irving Park and Bailey Park.

A large portion of the Battle Creek Linear Park Trail follows alongside the Kalamazoo River and Battle Creek River. The paved pathways go through very pretty green areas along the river with underpasses for crossing the major roadways. There are multiple bridges for crossing from one side to the other that offer pretty views of the waterway.
